Have you ever saved a bottle of wine for a special occasion or milestone?
The Memory Monolith is a cork bar table that transforms the ritual of sharing wine into a collective act of storytelling. Designed with angled bottle holders and perforations that allow users to reuse and display cork caps from meaningful occasions, the table gradually evolves as it accumulates traces of celebrations, relationships, and shared experiences. Through its materiality and interaction, it becomes both a functional gathering space and a monument to memory.
Designed in collaboration with Michael Miranda for the Vizcom and Corkway design competition, for which we explored the creative Vizcom interface to render our design ideas and final product.

We were inspired by the material constraints straight away as we have both never implemented cork in our designs as the main material. We often associate cork with celebration, warmth and occasions when we get together over wine or champagne. We even sometimes save bottles for special moments and milestones in our lives. However when the moment is passed the bottle is discarded. This act was what inspired us to make this interactive piece. We were motivated to encourage the user to cherish these milestones and keep memories of them by simply implementing the cork cap into the design. This piece was a storytelling piece from the start and we wanted its shape to match these memories and their connection so we decided to use abstract geometric shapes all coming together at the perforations to symbolize the evolving state of our memory.
